In 1885, Elizabeth Coe Marshall
founded the first Visiting Nursing Association right here in Western New
York. She hired a private nurse to help her recover from a hospital stay
while she recuperated at home. She knew the value of home-based care first-hand,
and went on a mission to deliver that same care to all patients, regardless
of their ability to pay.
119 years later, caring professionals from the Visiting
Nursing Association of Western New York are assisting patients in all
eight WNY counties. The VNA services over 15,000 patients annually, with
over 500,000 home visits.
The VNA specializes in skilled home nursing and rehabilitation,
with the largest team of skilled caregivers in the area. The VNA boasts
patient satisfaction ratings in the top 20% of the country and are proud
of their 100% physician satisfaction rating. The VNA keeps patients out
of emergency rooms and hospitals at a far better rate than national benchmarks.
The VNA also specializes in home infusion therapy, with
the largest team of infusion pharmacists working hand-in-hand with a dedicated
group of certified intravenous nurses. This group can administer home
based antibiotic therapy, chemotherapy, steroids, and a variety of other
infusions.
Respiratory care is another area of expertise for the VNA,
who has a team of Respiratory Therapists that average over 20 years of
experience. Home oxygen, ventilators, and sleep assist devices are a few
of the respiratory services provided.
